The Dordogne is situated in the South West of France. It has four regions described as Perigord Vert, Perigord Blanc, Perigord Noir and Perigord Pourpre. It also has many interesting cities, towns and villages. Bordeaux and Bergerac are famous as the centres of production of some of the finest wines in the world. Perigueux and Brantome are steeped in history with their narrow streets and historic sites creating an atmosphere that is special. Brantome is an island town, circled by the river Dronne, and is known as the Venice of the Dordogne.
Wherever you select as the location for your new home in the Dordogne you will be adopting a life style that embodies most of the best things in life – peaceful, easy-going days, excellent food and wine, beautiful scenery, lovely climate, lots to see and do throughout the year and a cost of living that is easy on your purse.
Unlike in some European countries the road system in the Dordogne is excellent and provides easy access to all cities, towns and villages throughout the region.
Each season has something special to offer. In spring it is a pleasure to simply take a walk in the countryside. Summer provides beautiful warm days to go swimming in the lakes and rivers, canoeing or boating on the lazily flowing rivers and streams, or visiting the wondrous attractions of the prehistoric caves and medieval castles and fortresses.
The Dordogne has more historic sites and places of interest than any other location in France (with the possible exception of Paris). Autumn and winter are busy times in the local markets. Local produce on offer, famous all over the epicurean world, includes fresh truffles, cepes and foies gras and indeed, the Dordogne is the supplier of almost half of France's fine produce: wines, cèpes, truffles, and duck.
